Voyager Academy High School uses the learning management system called, Canvas. 

What is Canvas and how is it used?

Canvas is Voyager’s learning management system (LMS). LMSs are used widely in high schools and colleges/universities around the world. Students use Canvas to access course materials, manage an assignment calendar, submit assignments including homework, quizzes, tests, and projects, communicate with teachers, and collaborate with their peers. Canvas is also a multimedia platform, allowing for many different methods of instruction. All grades are posted on Canvas, and are accessible to the Parent Observer.

INSTRUCTIONS

Parents Register as a “Parent Observer”:
As a parent, your account allows you to observe, but not participate in, the activity in your students’ classes at Voyager High School. You can set it up to do things like notify you of new assignments, notifying you of new grades the moment they’re entered, and more.

Before beginning, please note

1. Phones and tablets can be used to access Canvas, but may not work for account setup. A desktop or laptop is recommended for this process.
2. If you have multiple students, start with one, then see the “Add additional students” section.
3. If you desire separate accounts for each parent/guardian, then complete the entire process for each parent/guardian.

Instructions for creating your account and adding the first student:

1. Have your student generate a Student Pairing Code. Your student can do this separately and send you the code, or you can sit down and do it together.
2. Go https://voyager.instructure.com/login/canvas. You may want to bookmark this URL, as you will use this page for future logins.
3. Click “Parent of a Canvas User? Click Here For an Account”.
4. The signup form appears. Fill out the form with your information. The last field, “Student Pairing Code”, adds your student to your parent account. Enter the Student Pairing Code that your student provided you.
5. Agree to the terms of use and privacy policy, then click “Start Participating”.
6. Your account is now created and you are automatically logged into Canvas.
7. From there, you can go into settings to set your preferences.

Add additional students

1. Have your student generate a Student Pairing Code. Your student can do this separately and send you the code, or you can sit down and do it together.
2. Log into Canvas with your parent account.
3. Click “Account”, then “Settings”.
4. In the left hand navigation bar, click “Observing”.
5. You now see the “Student Pairing Code” field. Enter the Student Pairing Code that your student provided you.

Students:
If you are a student who is new to Voyager or if you did not claim your Canvas account last year, follow the instructions below to claim your account. Note: You only need to do this one time; if you have ever had a Canvas account, you can still log in with your student ID number and your personal password.

1. Visit this page: http://my.ncedcloud.org/
2. Click “Claim My Account”
3. Change the policy to “LEA Student Claim Policy”. Click “Next”
4. Enter your birthday, LEA/Charter Code (32L), grade, and your student UID (student ID number).
5. Enter the captcha code and click “Next”
6. Choose a password according to the listed requirements and click “Next”.
7. Answer at least five of the challenge questions. These are used for self-service password reset.
8. Click “Next” and you are done.
