CURRENT STUDENTS

Current Voyager Academy students do not need to re-apply for admission, but they are required to submit a commitment letter for the upcoming school year.  This commitment letter is due February 27, 2010 in order to determine any additional openings for the lottery.  This form will be available online and sent home to every Voyager Academy family.

AVAILABLE POSITIONS

There will be 100 positions available for 4th grade; all other grades will have available positions based on different factors:  the number of students committing to Voyager Academy for the upcoming school year, the number of siblings applying to Voyager, any growth allowed by the state board of education, and any matriculation deficiencies.

ADMISSION PROCEDURES

All applicants may apply online; or you may visit Voyager Academy to complete a paper application.

All applicants must apply for the grade they will enter for the 2010-2011 school year.  You may only submit one application for admission.

You must apply by Midnight February 28, 2010 to be considered for the lottery.  If you apply after this date you will be eligible for any spots remaining after the lottery or you will be placed on the waiting list.

IMPORTANT REMINDERS

  • If there are fewer applicants than slots available, all applicants will be admitted.
  • Voyager will require parents/guardians fulfill a certain amount of volunteer hours per year.
  • Accepted families who enroll in Voyager Academy - Parents and Students must read and agree to follow the Voyager Academy policies and procedures.
  • Students attending Voyager Academy may live in any county in North Carolina.
  • Voyager does not provide transportation to and from school.
  • The lottery will be held on March 6, 12 noon in the Voyager Academy gym and is open to the public.  You DO NOT have to be present to be chosen.
  • Siblings of current Voyager Academy students and children of current Voyager Academy staff are admitted before the lottery to any open spots for the grade they are applying for.  If there are more siblings applying than spots available there will be a lottery held between siblings of Voyager students.
  • Voyager will send a confirmation to each family chosen through the lottery.  This confirmation letter will need to be completed, signed and returned to the school by March 19, 2010.  This will be used to confirm your commitment to Voyager and release your records from your current school.  Failure to return your confirmation will nullify your acceptance.
  • Students not admitted through the lottery will be placed on a wait list.  You will be kept on the waitlist until the next application process begins for the next school year.  If a spot becomes available we will contact families in order of their waitlist number.
  • If you do not get a space through the lottery/waiting list process, you must re-apply to be considered the following year. However, current students do not have to re-apply year-to-year.
  • Voyager Academy uses the North West Evaluation Assessment software to measure and improve academic growth for our students.  All students accepted through the lottery to Voyager Academy for the upcoming school year will participate in NWEA testing prior to the first day of school.  This test establishes a baseline for new students so that we can determine the students academic level and measure their academic growth the entire time they attend Voyager Academy.  All students accepted for the 2010-11 school year will be evaluated in August of 2010. We will contact all accepted families with the testing dates after confirmation letters have been received.

Please be advised that the application process is only complete after each child participates in the NWEA testing program.
Please contact our office if you have questions.
