8th Grade Independent Novel Project
During our independent novel study, each student chose a book to read individually. After reading their books, students were given multiple ways to demonstrate critical thinking about what they read. Options included making a soundtrack for the book and writing an explanation for each song, creating an artistic piece to demonstrate symbolism in their novel choice, or writing an editorial piece to be submitted to the local newspaper expressing a concern over a social issue discussed in the novel they read.
Students enjoyed the opportunity for autonomy while reading, and producing a quality project. They did an outstanding job while completing the independent study.
