6th Grade Space Exploration Project
The 6th grade Space Exploration project was an interdisciplinary look at what it takes to put together a functioning, futuristic society. Students began by considering what jobs and professions are required to make our modern way of life work, and putting together a roster of who would be needed for an off-Earth colony. They then modified those ideas based on in-depth learning about the conditions on various moons and planets within our solar system, developing a purpose for each colony (such as mining, research, or military outpost). Finally, they studied the mathematics of resources, living space, and travel time, built a rocket to get them there, and created advertisements to convince prospective colonists to join them. It was, almost literally, a blast!
