Monday Enrichment F.A.Q.                        Last Updated July 2008

What is Monday Enrichment?
Monday Enrichment is an opportunity for students to explore other educational/artistic/athletic** activities
outside of the regular class day. Participation is not mandatory, and students may go home at the 1pm
Monday dismissal time if they choose not to stay for any of these activities.

(**Please note that there are not as many athletic offerings for the 2008-9 school year.  This is due to the
fact that the Voyager Athletic department will be offering an Intramural Sports program on Monday
afternoons as well.  This will run independently of Enrichment.  Students may be enrolled in either one or
the other (but not both) in any given quarter.)

When do the courses run and how long are they?
Monday Enrichment programs are held on Monday afternoons after the 1pm dismissal, and may be one or
two hours long. Allowing time for 1pm dismissal, on-campus classes will run from 1:15 pm through 3:15
pm.  (Off-campus offerings may follow a different time frame.)  Sessions will coincide with the 9-week
grading periods, and be offered four times over the school year.

The 2008-9 Enrichment sessions are as listed below:

1st Session:  Sept 8, 15, 22, 29, Oct 6, 13, 20  (7 classes)

2nd Session:  Nov 3, 10, 17, 24, Dec 1, 8, 15  (7 classes)

3rd Session:  Jan 26, Feb 2, 9, 23, Mar 2, 9, 16, 23  (8 classes)

4th Session:  Mar 30, Apr 6, 20, 27, May 4, 11, 18, Jun 1  (8 classes)

This schedule includes all Mondays school is in session with the following 3 exceptions:
August 25, January 12th, and June 8th.

Do I have to enroll for the entire time?
A student will be enrolled in a particular activity for the duration of the session.  There is no partial
enrollment.  However, a student does not need to commit to Enrichment for the entire school year.**
Students can elect to participate for one session, and then do 1pm release the following session, etc.
Students are encouraged to explore different areas each session, though they may also continue with the
same activity if enrollment allows.  (**Science Decathlon is an exception.  Please see the catalog
description for details.)

For a particular session, a student may enroll in just a 1:15 – 2:15 class, and be picked up at 2:15.
However, a student MUST be enrolled in a 1:15 class in order to take a 2:15 class.  Students will not be
permitted to leave school at 1pm and then return for a 2:15 class.  In each situation, please use the car
line and do not come into the building.

How will dismissal work?
On Mondays, there will be 3 dismissal times, each with a car pickup line.  There will be 1pm pickup for
those not taking part in Enrichment, 2:15 pickup for those enrolled only in the first “period” activity, and
then 3:15 pickup for the remaining students.

Where will Monday Enrichment classes be held?
Most classes will take place in one of the classrooms here at Voyager.  Other classes may be held off-
campus and may require transportation, such as carpooling. Please check the course catalog to see
where each class will be held.

Who is running the Monday Enrichment program?
Monday Enrichment is currently run by Donna Spero, a Voyager parent.  With the help of several people,
she has reached out to local organizations, community members, and other Voyager parents to ask if they
could offer classes on Monday afternoons exclusively for our Voyager students. There has been a
wonderful response, and we have been able to offer a wide range of activities.  If you are interested in
having a particular activity offered, or perhaps know someone who might like to offer a class, please
contact Donna Spero.  Likewise, if you have questions about the current offerings, or specific concerns
about your student, please contact Donna Spero.

How do I sign my child up?  Catalogs will be available online at www.voyageracademy.net several weeks
before commencement of each session. You will be notified by the school when the catalog becomes
available.  Simply go over the list with your child & decide which class(es) you would like to sign her/him up
for.  Send in your request form with your choices, ranked by preference, before the cutoff date given. In a
change to the “first-come, first-served” policy of last year, we will now treat equally all forms which are
turned in by the initial due date.  Should interest exceed availability, enrollees will be chosen randomly
from those turned in by the initial deadline.  (Should there still be availability after that, students will be
allowed to enroll until a second cut-off date.)  You should receive confirmation shortly thereafter as to
whether your child got their first choice, second choice, etc.  Payment will then need to be received in a
timely manner to secure your child's spot in that class.

My child didn't get into any of the classes we requested. Now what do we do? Don't give up!
Classes that have already filled up will usually be offered again during the next session. If your child does
not get into his/her preferred choice because it is full, s/he will have priority to enroll in that same class if it
is offered in the following session.  There might also still be open classes for the current session, so it can't
hurt to list a third choice, fourth choice, etc. when you submit your request sheet. Please also note that,
due to the limited number of classrooms available, we can only offer a fixed number of classes per session.
We will continue to monitor the interest levels for each of the classes and will, depending on demand,
adjust, add, or delete class offerings each session as needed.

We have a question that was not answered here.  Whom do we contact?
Please feel free to contact the Enrichment Coordinator, Donna Spero, at dlcspero@aol.com.
